FAQ

Below are frequently asked questions, you may find the answer for yourself
This is the FAQ section for Custom Designs. In case you need more assistance, please contact us at customerservice@flixprint.com

It depends.

Many factors are determining the quality of the print. Mathematically it would be best if you had a lot of pixels (picture size) to make a high-quality printout.

Please check out the reference table below:

Minimum Requirements
InchesCentimetersPixels
8x1020.32x25.41200x1500
12x1230.48x30.481800x1800
12x1630.48x40.641800x2400
18x2445.72x60.962700x3600

As you can see, the bigger print you want to make, the more pixels or bigger picture is needed.
This table is a mathematical calculation of potential print sizes according to the equipment we use in our production. Our print equipment is professionally calibrated to obtain better print results than in most print shops, so, typically, picture size requirement figures would be even higher.
Picture quality depends on many factors – camera sensor size, sensor quality, sensor noise levels, software, after processing algorithms, software enlargement e.t.c.
It also depends a lot on the media. Canvas fabrics are more forgiving than framed photo poster media – photo paper.
Please don’t be scared away by the facts you see in the table; see the next FAQ section for more encouraging information.

No, unless you have a professionally calibrated monitor with according color profile.

Simply to say – no. The monitor is a light-emitting device; colors are made by emitting light, while print colors are reproduced by reflecting light, applying thin layers of transparent inks on the white surface of printing material. It will never be precisely the same, according to the laws of physics.

However, our printing equipment is color calibrated to obtain the maximum color gamut potentially possible – e.g., colors will be as accurate as it is technically achievable.

Color calibration is a science, if you want reference prints, please reach us out by e-mail, and we will see what we can do for you.

Surface preparation:

  • The surface must be completely clean, smooth, and dry before final preparation.
  • CAUTION: Always test adhesion and paint/ adhesive compatibility prior to use. Adhesion can be tested by applying a small strip of Wallpaper in an inconspicuous area and allowed to dwell for 2-3 days.
  • If applying Wallpaper to a newly painted surface, follow all drying and curing instructions provided by the paint manufacturer prior to surface preparation and Wallpaper application.
  • Temperature plays an important role in how well a Wallpaper sticks to a substrate. Higher temperatures will make the Wallpaper soft and more pliable. However, the high temperature also makes the adhesive more aggressive, which can lead to pre-tack and increased stretching if it is necessary to reposition the Wallpaper. Lower temperatures will make the Wallpaper more rigid and reduce the tack of the adhesive.

Application:

∙ Before installing the Wallpaper, unroll it and allow it to lay flat. Allow the material to relax and reach room temperature for at least one hour prior to application.
∙ Before starting the application using low tack masking tape to temporarily tape up all panels to ensure graphic size and position.
∙ When handling the graphics, be sure to hold the Wallpaper as far into the graphic as possible, without wrinkling the Wallpaper. This will help avoid transferring oil from fingers and dirt to the edges of the graphic, which could result in peeling edges or lifting, which can cause adhesion problems.
∙ Use two hands when pulling the liner from the film, using care not to stretch the film. NOTE: Always remove the liner from the graphic rather than the graphic from the liner.
∙ Pull the squeegee or rivet brush across the graphic. Pushing it will cause the Wallpaper to stretch.
∙ Move the squeegee or rivet brush in a straight line-not in an arc.
∙ Use firm, overlapping strokes.
∙ Once the graphic is applied:
∙ Re-squeegee all of the edges of the graphic to help ensure good adhesion. This will reduce the risk of damage and lifting at the edges of the graphic.
∙ Trim graphics 1 cm from inner and outer wall corners.
∙ Finish the graphic by working a rivet brush in small circles around the entire outer 7 cm of the graphic.

Trimming Requirements:

  • Areas of the graphic around doors, openings, outside and inside corners of walls, and high traffic areas are susceptible to damage. To reduce the risk of damage and lifting of the graphic, it is important to trim the graphic approximately 5 mm from the edge of the graphic.
  • After application and trimming, it is necessary to brush the edges with a rivet brush to ensure good adhesion of the graphic edges.

Graphic Removal

  • Removing a graphic can cause damage to the wall.
  • For best results, remove the films slowly.
  •  Start at the top of the graphic and pull it away from the wall at a 120-180 degree angle.

Yes, but it depends, sorry to say that again.

If the picture is taken in natural sunlight, with the rear camera of a modern smartphone, it can be printed on Canvas texture (fabric) in reasonable quality up to 24 x 36 inch (60 x 91 cm) size. That is pretty big! However, to obtain photo quality on photo paper, you will need a much bigger resolution.

Please be aware that modern smartphones have several cameras – rear cameras are higher resolution than the front or so-called selfie camera; thus, selfie camera pictures will be lower resolution, thus causing smaller prints in the result.

Canvas will be printed on the highest quality cotton canvas fabric; it has reduced aging thanks to the neutral Ph level. Fabric is made under the highest quality standards and in environmentally responsible production. Posters will be printed on Original Photo Paper, Matt surface, brilliant color reproduction, and prolonged durability, also in environmentally responsible production. Framed posters frame will be made from wood, sourced from sustainable forests, covered with thin antiglare plexiglass. All prints are made with eco-friendly cadmium-free original printing inks.
